Mandatory Qualifications
Interns must be 16 years old by June 10th, 2025. River City High School students must have completed at least one course in one of WUSD’s Career Technical Education Pathways. View qualifying courses here. Yolo High School and Washington Middle College students must have a recommendation form filled out by a teacher or counselor. All participants must have also participated in or watched a recording of an online informational session about the internships offered by the Home Run team.
Responsibilities
Summer Institute Interns will support classroom instruction, assisting with art projects, small group instruction, and recess games. They will have the opportunity to select projects that interest them and build up their leadership skills.
About the Business
The WUSD Summer Institute serves 350 Kindergarten through 8th grade English Learner, Dual Immersion, and Extended School Year students each year, providing engaging Science-based lessons to develop language and build confidence.
Preferred Abilities
Interns will take the initiative to offer their assistance to teachers. They will work together to complete a project that will enhance the summer program. They must be responsible, hard-working, and work well with children.

Special Project
Interns can select a project that aligns with their skillset and interests, including:
-Digital Summer Institute photo album
-Student performances or puppet shows
-Curriculum-related art projects
-Recordings of read-alouds
-Organized sports/games for outdoor playtime
Additional Information
Interns will support in the classrooms, outside at recess, and will participate in the teacher professional learning sessions.
