Mandatory Qualifications

Interns must be 16 years old by June 10th, 2025. River City High School students must have completed at least one course in one of WUSD’s Career Technical Education Pathways. View qualifying courses here. Yolo High School and Washington Middle College students must have a recommendation form filled out by a teacher or counselor. All participants must have also participated in or watched a recording of an online informational session about the internships offered by the Home Run team.

Responsibilities

Marketing interns will support the YMCA’s digital marketing efforts by working closely with the Marketing Coordinator and Marketing Director to create engaging content across various platforms. They will assist in developing social media content that aligns with the YMCA’s mission and programs, including short-form content like reels, stories, and posts, as well as long-form video content such as program highlights, testimonials, and event recaps. Interns will attend YMCA programs, events, and classes to capture high-quality photos and videos, design graphics, write captions, and schedule posts using content planning tools.


In addition to content creation, interns will help film and edit long-form video content for social media, the YMCA website, and promotional materials. They will also assist with interviews, storytelling videos, and maintaining a media library for future use. Beyond video production, interns will contribute to marketing campaigns, monitor social media engagement, analyze performance metrics, and research trends to enhance the YMCA’s digital presence. This internship provides hands-on experience in digital marketing, content creation, and video production while making a meaningful impact on the YMCA community.

Preferred Abilities

Strong communication and collaboration skills, creativity for engaging content, attention to detail, and organizational skills to manage multiple projects. Interns should be adaptable, self-motivated, and passionate about social media trends. Basic proficiency in social media tools and video editing software (Capcut, Canva, Adobe Premiere Pro) is also valuable.

Learning outcomes

  1. Content Creation: Interns will learn how to capture high-quality photos and videos that effectively showcase YMCA programs and engage audiences.

  2. Content Editing: Interns will gain hands-on experience in editing both long-form and short-form content, developing skills in video editing and graphic design to create polished, professional media.

  3. Social Media Management: Interns will learn the ins and outs of social media management, including scheduling posts, tracking analytics, and understanding campaign strategies to optimize engagement and reach.

  4. In addition to content creation and social media management, interns will develop skills in communication and collaboration, working across teams to execute strategies. They will gain project management experience by handling multiple tasks, enhance their ability to align content with branding, and improve creative problem-solving skills.

Special Project

One project that the intern(s) will have the opportunity to complete is assisting in the creation and management of a comprehensive social media campaign for the YMCA’s summer programs, including youth sports, day camp, Bear Valley overnight camp, and childcare. The intern(s) will work closely with the Marketing Coordinator and Director to develop content for the various programs’ social media platforms, including creating promotional posts, designing eye-catching graphics, and producing engaging videos that highlight program activities, participant testimonials, and behind-the-scenes footage.

The intern(s) will be responsible for capturing photos and videos during program activities, editing the content to match the YMCA’s branding, and scheduling posts using social media planning tools. They will also monitor engagement metrics, track the success of the campaign, and make adjustments as needed to optimize audience reach. This project will provide the intern(s) with valuable experience in content creation, social media strategy, and performance analysis, while contributing to the promotion of the YMCA’s impactful summer programs.
