Mandatory Qualifications
Interns must be 16 years old by June 10th, 2025. River City High School students must have completed at least one course in one of WUSD’s Career Technical Education Pathways. View qualifying courses here. Yolo High School and Washington Middle College students must have a recommendation form filled out by a teacher or counselor. All participants must have also participated in or watched a recording of an online informational session about the internships offered by the Home Run team.
Responsibilities
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Supervises a group of children. Promotes a positive environment for children, parents and staff. Demonstrates an understanding of the developmental needs of children and families, and strong communication skills. Exhibits good judgment, and the ability to create an inclusive environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
-Plans and implements program in accordance with the goals and policies of the YMCA. Coordinates activities, which fit the children’s developmental needs.
-Provides leadership for staff overseeing the activities of several groups of children.
-Supervises a group of children to ensure their health and safety, and to provide for a positive experience for each child.
-Communicates with and maintains positive relationships with families. May conduct conferences.
-Provides day-to-day leadership to staff and volunteers.
-Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures.
-Provides assistance to supervisor and may fill-in during temporary absences.
-Maintains ordered arrangement, appearance, decor, cleanliness, and learning environment of site.
-Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.
-Assists in recruitment of members for the Parent Advisory Group.
-Demonstrate the "Character Counts" values of caring, respect, honesty and responsibility in all your dealings with members, guests, volunteers and fellow staff.
-All other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
About the Business
The YMCA of Superior California is a community-focused organization dedicated to promoting youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Through various programs and initiatives, we strive to empower individuals and families to achieve a healthy life, in spirit, mind and body. The YMCA of Superior California Marketing & Communications department creates and manages all marketing campaigns, and internal/external communications for all association locations, including 4 branches, two pools, 11 school age sites, a Resident Camp, and an Early Learning Program. Duties include but are not limited to; social media and other digital media management, traditional marketing campaigns, website and intranet management, marketing data analysis, and press coverage/media.

Learning outcomes
The intern will building their resume, learn professional skills, have personal growth, and learning about the real world.
The intern will supervise children which requires attentiveness, clear communication, and the ability to guide and protect them while they explore their environment.
The intern will learn work place etiquette such as time management, communication skills, teamwork and problem solving.
The intern will also gain confidence and self-discipline.
Special Project
The interns will have the opportunity to teach a lesson to a group of children.
Additional Information
*Please note that this position is outside of West Sacramento. Interns will need to find their own transportation to and from the worksite and weekly trainings.
