Mandatory Qualifications
Interns must be 16 years old by June 10th, 2025. River City High School students must have completed at least one course in one of WUSD’s Career Technical Education Pathways. View qualifying courses here. Yolo High School and Washington Middle College students must have a recommendation form filled out by a teacher or counselor. All participants must have also participated in or watched a recording of an online informational session about the internships offered by the Home Run team.
Responsibilities
Provide administrative support, including data entry, scheduling meetings, and completing various office tasks
Assist in planning and organizing internship lessons for high school youth, covering topics like job skills and career readiness
Support outreach efforts, engaging with families in West Sacramento through community events, social media, and direct communication
Help create flyers, graphics, and promotional materials using Canva
Assist with social media management, including posts and ads on Instagram and Facebook Ad Center
Represent Home Run at events and workshops, including opportunities for public speaking
Collaborate with city staff, other interns, and community partners to deliver quality programming

Our initiative has six different programs; Quality Early Learning, College Savings Accounts, Internships, Digital Micro-credentials, College Promise, and Ready, Set, Save!

Learning outcomes
Professional Communication and Public Speaking - Interns will gain confidence and skills in professional communication by engaging with families, community members, and city staff. They’ll also have opportunities to practice public speaking during outreach events and intern meetings.
Social Media Management - Interns will learn how to create, manage, and analyze effective social media campaigns, using platforms like Instagram and Facebook. They'll gain hands-on experience in content creation, audience engagement, and using tools like Canva and Facebook Ad Center.
Team Collaboration - Working closely with city staff, other interns, and community partners, they'll build teamwork skills. Learning how to collaborate, take feedback, and contribute to group.

Special Project
During their internship, interns will have the opportunity to lead a social media campaign that promotes the West Sacramento Home Run programs and events. Over the course of 7 weeks, interns will work both individually and as a team to plan, create, and manage a series of 10 social media videos designed to engage the West Sacramento community.
