Mandatory Qualifications

Interns must be 16 years old by June 10th, 2025. River City High School students must have completed at least one course in one of WUSD’s Career Technical Education Pathways. View qualifying courses here. Yolo High School and Washington Middle College students must have a recommendation form filled out by a teacher or counselor. All participants must have also participated in or watched a recording of an online informational session about the internships offered by the Home Run team.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting district staff with technology-related issues such as device connectivity, software installations, and hardware troubleshooting.

  • Supporting inventory management of district devices (Chromebooks, laptops, tablets, etc.), including tracking, organization, and maintenance.

  • Assisting with regular maintenance tasks such as software updates, imaging, and hardware checks.

  • Assisting in preparing educational software and applications for the upcoming school year.

  • Supporting the setup and configuration of classroom technology tools.

  • Contributing to district-wide summer technology initiatives, including software deployments, hardware upgrades, and special projects.

  • Participating in team planning sessions and providing valuable input based on your experiences and observations.

Learning outcomes

  • Technical Proficiency: The intern will learn to effectively troubleshoot, repair, and maintain educational technology devices such as Chromebooks, laptops, and tablets, building foundational technical skills that apply broadly in technology fields.

  • Project Management and Organization: The intern will develop strong organizational skills by actively participating in device inventory management, software installations, and district-wide technology preparation, gaining experience in planning, tracking, and executing technology projects.

Special Project

One exciting project interns will participate in involves managing district Chromebooks. Interns will clean, evaluate, and prepare existing Chromebooks, as well as deliver and set up incoming stock of new Chromebooks designated for students entering the 6th and 9th grades. This project includes hands-on tasks such as assessing device conditions, performing necessary repairs or maintenance, configuring new devices, inventory tracking, and assisting in the logistical planning and distribution process for the upcoming school year.

Additional Information

Interns will work primarily in a collaborative office and at the technology department setting within the district office or school sites. Tasks will involve working closely with district technology professionals and staff members. Interns may also engage in occasional fieldwork within district campuses, handling equipment and technology setup in various school environments. Expect to participate in both team-based and independent tasks, fostering teamwork, professional communication, and problem-solving skills.
