Mandatory Qualifications
Interns must be 16 years old by June 10th, 2025. River City High School students must have completed at least one course in one of WUSD’s Career Technical Education Pathways. View qualifying courses here. Yolo High School and Washington Middle College students must have a recommendation form filled out by a teacher or counselor. All participants must have also participated in or watched a recording of an online informational session about the internships offered by the Home Run team.
Responsibilities
The intern will spend time using both AutoCAD and Revit in the creation of architectural and structural drawings for various building types. While our firm's focus is on structural engineering, we work to provide interns with a broader, more encompassing experience as a design professional.
About the Business
RW Consulting Engineers, Inc. is a small structural engineering firm (7 people) specializing in the design of California public school facilities (Pre K - 12 and Community Colleges).
Preferred Abilities
Willingness to learn, comfortable working in a team environment, with any computer skills a plus.
Learning outcomes
To learn what it is like to work in an office as a design professional, and how to collaborate with others on the design of large projects.
To learn to use AutoCAD and Revit as a design tool in the production of construction documents / drawings.
To learn some aspects of structural engineering and how the structural systems shown in construction drawings are determined.

Special Project
The intern will use Revit to design a small building, creating a 3D model and generating architectural and structural drawings from the model. The intern will also work with the firm's engineers in the production of structural drawings for actual public-school projects in the Sacramento region.
