Mandatory Qualifications

Interns must be 16 years old by June 10th, 2025. River City High School students must have completed at least one course in one of WUSD’s Career Technical Education Pathways. View qualifying courses here. Yolo High School and Washington Middle College students must have a recommendation form filled out by a teacher or counselor. All participants must have also participated in or watched a recording of an online informational session about the internships offered by the Home Run team.

Responsibilities

Be Ready & Professional

• Arrive on time in clean, appropriate clothing.

• Greet students and parents with a friendly attitude.

• Ask instructors where you’re needed—stay proactive.


Help With Class Flow

• Set up and clean up equipment.

• Keep the space tidy and organized.

• Encourage students and help them stay focused.


Support the Instructors

• Watch carefully and assist where asked (handing out gear, lining up students, etc.).

• Be positive, patient, and respectful to all students.

4. Learn & Grow

• Ask questions and accept feedback.

• Reflect on what you’re learning—about teaching, leadership, and working with others.

• Be a role model, even if you’re still learning the martial arts side.


Basic Business Operations

• Help check students in using the attendance app.

• Keep reception and seating area tidy—wipe down counters, restock flyers, etc.

• Prepare student handouts or promotional materials.

• Track inventory of items like belts, uniforms, and gear.

• Assist during events (sign-in table, handing out info, setup/teardown).

• Basic Office/Marketing transactions

Learning outcomes

  • The intern will learn how to communicate effectively and professionally with both children and adults in a customer-focused environment.

  • The intern will develop strong teamwork and time management skills by supporting instructors during classes and helping with daily studio operations.

  • The intern will gain hands-on experience in youth program support and basic business tasks, such as checking in students, preparing materials, and assisting with events.

Special Project

1. Social Media Content Calendar
• Plan 4+ weeks of posts for Instagram and Facebook
• Use Canva to design post templates
• Include photos, quotes, tips, or fun facts
• Schedule or organize posts in a Google Sheet

2. Student Spotlight Interviews
• Interview students or families (2-3 questions each)
• Take a photo or short video
• Write a short caption for each
• Post as reels, stories, or in a special Instagram highlight

3. Summer Family Fun Night
• Plan a fun event like Ninja Night or Water Games
• Design a flyer and social media post
• Help with sign-ups and event setup
• Take photos during the event

4. Life Skill Teaching Aids
• Make posters or visuals for the life skill of the month
• Create simple games, roleplays, or coloring pages
• Help instructors use them in class

5. New Parent Guide or FAQ
• Collect common questions from parents
• Write clear, helpful answers
• Turn it into a printed handout or PDF
• Optional: help create a welcome email or mini video version
