Mandatory Qualifications
Interns must be 16 years old by June 10th, 2025. River City High School students must have completed at least one course in one of WUSD’s Career Technical Education Pathways. View qualifying courses here. Yolo High School and Washington Middle College students must have a recommendation form filled out by a teacher or counselor. All participants must have also participated in or watched a recording of an online informational session about the internships offered by the Home Run team.
Responsibilities
Interns in the role of computer technician are responsible for refurbishing computers (desktops, laptops, tablets), troubleshooting issues, replacing components, installing software, cleaning devices, and properly storing them for distribution.
About the Business
We are a non-profit organization called Computers 4 Kids (C4K), located in West Sacramento, CA, USA. Our mission is to provide computers to students and low-income families in the West Sacramento area. As a United Way partner, we are currently in the process of refurbishing hundreds of computers for them.
Preferred Abilities
Interested recipients should have a basic knowledge of technology, be able to lift up to 40 lbs, and be on time, ready to learn and work.
Learning outcomes
Troubleshoot computer problems and identify the main components of a computer.
Install proper software on devices according to the hardware components
Cleaning devices and equipment and getting it ready for distribution
Organizing and cleaning working area after finish any project
Special Project
One of the projects the interns will complete is refurbishing a used computer, giving it a second life, and preparing the device for a future user. And getting the device ready for a future user
Additional Information
All interns, volunteers, and employees at Computers 4 Kids must provide a copy of their COVID-19 vaccination card. Since we work with youth, all volunteers are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
