About the Business

Sierra Donor Services is an Organ Procurement Organization. SDS serves nearly three million people across Northern California and Northern Nevada. We are an exceptional team of professionals dedicated to saving and improving lives by connecting organ and tissue donations to the patients who need them. We strive to extend the reach of each generous donor’s gift to those who are always profoundly grateful for them. Our performance is measured by the impact we have on the lives of families who make transplantation possible, and the patients whose lives are saved and improved by their gifts. Each Sierra Donor Services employee commits every day to be: Selfless, Hardworking, Passionate and Dependable.

The administrative team works with each of the departments to assist in scheduling meetings, scanning documents, accepting deliveries, managing phone calls, greeting guests and vendors, working on projects and doing whatever it takes to help the organization.

Preferred Abilities

I would like someone who has Excel and Canva experience. Their personal characteristics must meet our core values of being: Selfless, Hardworking, Passionate, Dependable. This is a great opportunity for someone who has an interest in nursing or medical school.

Learning outcomes

  • The intern will learn to work as part of a collaborative team.

  • The intern will learn communication skills, including listening and empathy when dealing with grieving families.

  • The intern will learn about the donation process. They may have an opportunity to watch corneas being processed for transplant or research.

  • The intern will also learn how to set up for meetings, including set up / clean up, preparing documents, if necessary, understanding the importance of supply inventory and making sure we have everything needed for meetings.

Special Project

Create and maintain inventory of supplies for various departments via an Excel spreadsheet.

Additional Information

I think it's important for people to know that we do have a morgue on site. While interns will not interact with bodies, there may be times when a body is being dropped off or picked up, and the intern could be in the vicinity. This is not an everyday occurrence, but applicants should be aware of it.
